Great cafe with a large menu, good coffee & good service. Toilets clean & accessible. Also a great base for accessing the HIgh Peak trail if you’re into off roading

The Whitworth building and park are steeped in Victorian industrial history. Lady Louisa Whitworth, wife of the industrialist Sir Joseph Whitworth, had a vision of creating a place where people could meet for leisure, recreational and educational purposes. The Whitworth is unique in that it is the only surviving Whitworth foundation that continues to operate under the terms of its original endowment. Once a Victorian boating lake the ponds are now home to an abundance of wildlife all year round.

The 2 mile section of the Monsal Train on this route (from Longreave Road/Rowland exit) to Bakewell has a slight downhill gradient, as does most of the trail in this direction. Return ride from Bakewell therefore slight ascent towards Buxton for much of the way. Essentially a flat ride in the Peak District :)

They’ve done a really good job of routing the trail through this section.

White Peak Loop trail goes through the park behind The Whitworth. It's scenic but a bit stop-start when avoiding pedestrians and following the gates and signs. If I'm on my road bike, I just tend to use the quiet lane near the railway crossing and rejoin trail further up towards Rowsley.

Super family freindly away from traffic cycle way with cafes! Make sure you dodge them tourists!

The Three Arch bridge was based on an Italian prototypes, for example, the Roman bridge at Rimini in Italy. Completed in 1761, the bridge carries the main drive over the River Derwent up to Chatsworth House. The bridge was carefully angled so as to be seen from the house and orientated in such a way as to provide a striking view to the house from the entrance drive. The bridge succeeded in fulfilling the design brief.

Three Arch Bridge, which was started in c.1759 and was completed by 1761, it carries the main drive over the River Derwent up to the house.
