The fountain statue on Bahnhofstrasse is the work of Robert Diez, born in 1844 in Pößneck, the son of Mayor Emil Diez. Robert Diez studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, later teaching there as a professor under Ernst Barlach, among others, and created many beautiful sculptures for prestigious buildings, including the Semper Opera House and the Dresden Albertinum, as well as for public squares and parks. He achieved worldwide fame with the 1878 bronze sculpture of the Goose Thief, which can still be seen today on the fountain in Dresden's historic old town. He donated a bronze cast of the fountain statue to his hometown. The Thuringian Forest branch association donated the Pößneck fountain to the statue in 1936.
