레일 옆의 멋진 자전거 도로로, 철도 및 증기 기관차 애호가에게 필수 코스입니다. 자전거 도로는 자갈길이며, 레일과 자전거 도로 사이에 울타리가 있습니다. 상당히 좁아서 맞은편에서 오는 자전거와 마주치면 멈춰야 합니다. 2026년 7월 말 방문 당시 몇 군데에 가시가 많은 나뭇가지가 길 위로 자라 있어 지나가기 위해 멈춰야 했습니다. 차는 Alysham에 주차하고 자전거를 타고 Wroxham으로 가서 자전거를 맡긴 후 기차를 타고 돌아와 차로 자전거를 찾았습니다. 멋진 나들이였습니다!

Impressive country house, run by the National Trust but the driveway through the grounds is open to cyclists without charge.

Well worth seeing! Extensive parkland with marked hiking trails, a walled garden with many flowering plants and a dovecote and of course the manor house with its exquisite furnishings of valuable paintings and furniture. The property is managed by the National Trust.

2024 closed for conservation but can be viewed.

Closed for restoration work as of Aug/Sept 2023, but you can still view from the car park. Baconsthorpe Castle is a moated and fortified 15th century manor house, that are a testament to the rise and fall of a prominent Norfolk family, the Heydons. Over 200 years, successive generations of this ambitious family built, then enlarged, and finally abandoned this castle. Sir John Heydon probably built the strong inner gatehouse during the turbulent Wars of the Roses period, and his son Sir Henry, whose memorial can be seen in Baconsthorpe Church, completed the fortified house. Here lies the ruins of the 15th century fortied Baconsthorpe Castle, complete with moat, which was once home to the Heydon family. Part of the property was converted for use as a textile factory, while the later addition of the turreted gatehouse was lived in until the 1920s.
