Komoot doesn't like to route you through here but it is possible to get north of here. The road climbs on tarmac from the gate, turns to smooth gravel before it ends at the gate to the landfill site. You can take the small track to the right and it will eventually bring you out on Broken Hill Road. Fine for a gravel bike when dry, roadies might struggle.

Great views from here and some interesting historic structures. Lots is fenced off, but if you walk up the short hill over the chained gateway you can see for miles and miles. Worth the extra effort!!

Makara Bech, great little sea front community, about 10-15km from Wellington. Wellington Rugged West Coast. From here you are able to walk to the gun emplacements and the West Wind Farm recreation area. There is a little cafe and toilets ammenities. You can get there from either Johnsonville or Karori, great rual roads so close to the city. A popular Roadies ride.

Nice tour, just take the train to Maymorn. Then a slight climb to the summit and a very long descent to Cross Creek. Then it's easier to cycle out to Featherston. Return here by train. Alternatively, take the car to the starting point. Shuttle back from Royal Hotel at 2:15 p.m.
