The whipping tower was once part of Weißenhorn's town fortifications. At the same time, it also served as a kind of prison, which is why it was also called the Thieves' Tower. The so-called whipping post was a triangular piece of wood on which prisoners sometimes had to sit for days in full view of the public.

The Upper Gate, Weißenhorn's landmark, is a remnant of the town's medieval fortifications. The four-sided gate tower was probably built around 1480; the outer gate and the round towers on the sides were added later. Today, the gate serves as a picturesque subject for photographs.

The Fugger and Neuffen castles have been part of Weißenhorn's history for centuries. The older castle, today usually called Neuffen Castle or the Old Castle, was built around 1470 under Jörg von Rechberg on the castle hill. Right next to it, Jakob Fugger had the impressive New Castle built in 1514, reflecting the growing influence of the Augsburg trading dynasty. Later, the two buildings were connected by a link to form a single complex. Today, the town hall is located here.

The Upper Gate is the landmark of the town of Weißenhorn. Over its more than 500-year history, the gate has been rebuilt and altered several times: The Upper Gate was built in 1470/80. In 1529, after the Peasants' War of 1525, the gate was so badly damaged that it had to be renovated. In 1725, the cellar beneath the Upper Gate was leased annually to the innkeeper Christoph Miller for storing his brown beer. The description of municipal properties from 1777 only mentions the residence of the gatekeeper. From 1819 onward, the midwife's residence in the Upper Gate is documented; it is presumed to have been the northern outer tower. In 1819, the midwife was Franziska Bader, and in 1843, Johanna Wirth. In 1819, the night watchman Stanislaus Demmel had his residence in the southern outer tower. The Punishment Tower marks the northwest corner of the city fortifications. It was built starting in 1488 as part of the city wall construction. The still-visible, elongated, barred window on the upper floor of the tower represents the exit onto the wall's parapet walk and illustrates the height of the former city wall. A transformer station is now located in the tower. There was also an exit from the walled city at this location. Source: https://geschichten-aus-weissenhorn.de/der-pruegelturm/
