It is a lavishly decorated building with medieval-style turrets and towers. The Little Castle was designed to be a retreat for Sir William Cavendish, a poet, courtier, and playboy. The interior has richly colored wall art, carved marble fireplaces, and painted ceilings. The basement has large round Romanesque vaults. The upper floors have large windows with panoramic views.

Built on the former Bolsover Branch Line this greenway currently connects Bramley Vale (with it's nature reserve and MTB trail) to Bolsover and the Carr Vale nature reserve, however there are hopes to officially extend it out to Poolsbrook Country Park in the future
