nice easy stretch of canal to walk. little but nature to keep you company.

Great location to grab a bite to eat or mooch around the shops.

Sometimes known as the "Lady of the Vale", it is a large church which has the 2nd highest spire in Leicestershire (at 212 feet). The oldest part of the church dates from the 12th century, with additions and alterations made during the following three centuries, including the nave and spire in the 15th century. There are two gargoyles on the south transept.

The church of St James the Great, Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir sits within the Vale of Belvoir, on the Belvoir estate. It is an ironstone Victorian church of exterior charm and significant landscape value. Completed in 1893, it has, since its construction, served the people of Woolsthorpe-by-Belvoir both spiritually and socially.

Built of ironstone with limestone dressings and dates from c1300, from which period only the arcade with alternating octagonal and circular piers and double-chamfered arches remain.

If visiting the grounds (around 20k acres). There are some lovely longer walks. Sturdy shoes recommended. Head for the frogs hollow. 1 to 2 hours and some exquisite views.

You will find Woolsthorpe Lock on the end of the fabulously named Dirty Duck Lane. The bridge over the Grantham Canal provides a fantastic viewpoint to take in a rest from your ride, as does the nearby Rutland Arms pub on Woolsthorpe Wharf. There is a good quality gravel towpath alongside the canal.

Note: The nice little independent Cafe Allez has now been replaced by the castle run coffee shop so they could cut out the people who built it up from nothing. Up to you if you want to give them your business.

Belvoir Castle is a historic fortress and stately home. It was built immediately after the Norman Conquest of 1066 but has been rebuilt three times since. The castle sits in extensive grounds and beautiful gardens, which are mostly early 19th century but incorporate 17th-century elements. The castle and grounds are open to the public.

Woolsthorpe Lock, on the Grantham Canal, is a picturesque place to stop for a moment. Nestling among stunning countryside, it is a lovely spot to while away some time. If you fancy a drink, the Dirty Duck pub on the opposite bank has a large garden beside the water and also serves food.

Really good cycling friendly cafe. Really friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. Food is not overpriced and good quality.

Great little café with a cycling theme.

A delightful coffee van parked in the visitor car park of Belvoir castle. Surrounded by wooden benches and with a stunning view across the vale of Belvoir its the perfect outdoors cafe stop. Despite being a van they have use of the Belvoir castle visitor toilets even when the castle is closed to the public. However, it is all outside so potentially less suitable for very bad weather days unless you wrap up warm in anticipation. The staff are awesome! Friendly, chatty and enthusiastic, I visited alone but immediately felt like I had made some new friends. The coffee is amazing. They serve a variety of coffees and have multiple dairy free milk options available at no extra cost. For cold drinks they serve the classic Belvoir sparkling beverages chilled fresh from the chiller. The food is equally delicious. A fresh daily selection of traybakes, cakes, and cookies, there's something for every taste including vegans! On this occasion, I went for the Bakewell tart and must say Bakewell has some competition here. Before you visit do quickly check there Facebook page or website as they are not always at Belvoir castle. I have been informed that they intend to increase there opening days though.
