An easily spotted landmark when riding the lanes west of Grantham. There's a great flattish run from Harby through the vale to Bottesford or ride up (and down) onto the ridge on which the castle stands for some great, short climbs.

One of the top 100 climbs. Fairly short and ramps up as you go easing off after the s bend

Friendly, cosy cafe in Goverton, near Bleasby. There are around 5 cycle racks with very small locks and key so you can lock your cycle up without worrying about it being stolen. The coffee and Chocolate orange cake were delicious! The tea shoppe has a beautiful enclosed garden full of flowers and wild birds. There is a toilet available to use. I would definitely recommend stopping by here for a coffee when on a ride. Visited in April 2025, opening hours are Wednesday - Sunday, 9am-4pm.

Nice little climb. Good for benchmarking or friendly battle with friends. Not too long and has a sting in the tail. 99% car free.

Sweet little back road from Gunthorpe bridge to East Bridgford. Traffic free to the west, access only at the eastern end, so very quiet. Great way of avoiding the main road. Watch out for flooding after heavy rain though, as the bottom end is at water level. Tip: keep a gear ready for the last bit where it ramps up suddenly.

Cafe provides excellent food at reasonable prices. Plenty of outside seats and bike racks. Only 1 toilet so expect to que. Well worth a stop on your ride.

Not a lot to be seen from the road but a very pretty location tucked down the lane in its little valley.

Amazing! I wasn't expecting such a castle in the middle of Newark when cycling through.👍 Looks like it would be well worth a visit if you have time.

My favourite stretch when cycling on the quiet lanes from Newark to Gunthorpe on the north side of the river. There is also an enjoyable riverside walk to this point from the car-park at Gunthorpe, past the locks and weir.

Belvoir Castle sits ontop of a hill rising over the valley of Belvoir, commanding views of North Leicestershire for many miles. The house has been the ancestral home of the Dukes of Rutland with the family living at Belvoir for almost a thousand years. The land was a gift from William the Conqueror to one of his Normal barons who fought for him at the Battle of Hastings 1066. The house and gardens can be visited with a cafe to take a break. Combine a visit to the castle with a picnic, watching the Trent roll by. There are lots of quiet lanes approaching from the south.
