Hardwick Hall estate is a vast and impressive estate with a great legacy. It was once occupied by Lady Margaret Spencer, who was the wife of the 1st Earl Spencer of Althrop back in the eighteenth century and was passionate about her walks and gardens. The late Princess Diana of Wales is a descendant of Lady Spencer. Originally, this was a short walk that has now been extended and takes you on a nice tour of the woodland and gardens of the estate.

Gregory mine is an old Lead mine which appears to have been worked from the early 1700s and certainly continuously from 1734 to 1803.  In it's time it was one of the most productive Lead mines in Derbyshire.  Little currently remains of the original mine with the only structure still left standing being a chimney. In its hay day the mine was said to have produced over 500 tonnes of ore a year and was very profitable.  However, towards the end of the 18th century the main vein was exhausted and despite the discovery of a new vein it's extraction was deemed not financially viable and the mine closed in 1803.

Locko Plantation was once a slag heap for Pilsley Colliery.

And the place for Bluebells in the Spring. There's a circular path not shown on the map which drops down to and then follows the stream. Well worth leaving the Five Pits Trail for a walk, muddy in the winter.
