This was the Derbyshire and Staffordshire line, the station opening in 1878. In 1953 it was closed to passengers and in 1962 to goods. This was quite a substantial station. The line then continued west to Derby Friargate and on to Burton upon Trent. East it went to West Hallam and Nottingham Victoria and on this station a shopping centre now stands.

"The Chevin" including Jacksons Lane this is a mile and a half of downhill action, past the Golf Course and getting steeper all the time

But don't bother going up it unless you like pushing

A great area. Somewhere I should ride more often than I do (pretty much on my doorstep). I go up from what used to be the HSBC in Duffield, Approach Hazlewood and get into the Chevin that way.

Wyver Lane Nature Reserve is a superb spot for an amble, particularly for wildlife lovers. It comprises two pools surrounded by reed beds and water meadows. It's an important wetland site and home to Canada geese, tufted ducks, little grebes, while large numbers of gulls visit in winter. The reserve is also home to otters, a glorious sight.
