Nice place for a short break. Never entered the pub while cycling.

The Canal Museum, Stoke Bruerne is a great place to learn about the history of the canals and the people who worked on them. The museum is housed in a historic corn mill and offers visitors a chance to see how canals were built and operated. The museum also has a cafe, a gift shop, and a boat trip. It is open Tuesday through Saturday. Admission to the museum is free. Plenty of cycle stands outside the museum and cafe.

The magnificent Blisworth Tunnel is the longest on the Grand Union Canal and the third-longest navigable canal tunnel in the UK.

A nice view from the town of Gayton - worth a quick stop to take it in (or more likely take a photo).

In order to get from the canal to the footpath over the hill you have to cross the West Coast Main Line via the road bridge. There is no direct access to the bridge from the canal so you have to carry on to the next Canal bridge and follow the road round and over from there.

This is totally unexpected. The cutting is quite deep and the brick bridge over is impressive. It is a significant piece of engineering for, what appears to be a narrow track. The cutting is heavily wooded and, unfortunately, it is difficult to get a clear view of the structure. I climbed down to the bottom of the cutting but it is a difficult, steep scramble.

Gayton is a lovely hilltop village that enjoys splendid views of the Northamptonshire countryside. It is not far from the Grand Union Canal and the remarkable Blisworth Tunnel, one of the longest canal tunnels in the world. The remains of what was probably a Roman temple were discovered half a mile (0.8 km) to the south east of the village.

Built in 1805, Blisworth Tunnel is the longest navigable canal tunnel in the country at 1.7 miles (2.8 km). This also makes it the ninth longest in the world. There is no towpath through the tunnel, though there is enough space for two narrowboats to pass each other.

Just south of Northampton, Blisworth is a pleasant village on the Grand Union Canal. It has long been associated with rail travel and a station was built here for the London to Birmingham line, as well as a majestic arched bridge, designed by Robert Stephenson. The station has since gone but the West Coast Mainline passes close to the village. As well as the canal's towpath, nearby Salcey Forest will also interest walkers. There are a range of facilities and three waymarked walking trails that explore the woodland.

This landmark is a ventilation tunnel for the Grand Union Canal, which passes under the field through the Blisworth Tunnel at this point.

The Navigation Pub is actually behind the cameraman from this photograph, over the bridge and back down to the canal. The pub on the left of this photo (behind the blue and red canal boat) is The Boat Inn and boasts a great old english pub atmosphere, with skittles and an amazing old table with great old bench seating. They also have a much more modern bar on the opposite side (road entrance) and a full cafe and upstairs restaurant to the rear. Very welcoming and great for a quick pint and some food, during or after a long ride along the canal.

A picturesque church and a lovely place to have a short drink or snack break!

This is an old village to the South of Northampton famous as a centre for the Grand Union Canal in the area. Popular with locals, there is a pub, cafe, Waterways Museum and public toilets.
