It's probably the most underrated point in the peak district, with, in my opinion, the best views in the peaks.

Great views

Mam Tor is a 517 m ASL high hill north-west of Castleton in Derbyshire, England. The hillfort on the summit is the only excavated large mound in the Peak District. The hill is crowned by a simply walled hillfort dating to the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. The remains of two Early Bronze Age burial mounds, which predate the hillfort, have been discovered on the summit.

Possibly the best viewpoint of the Peak District

If you follow the trail down from the trig point back to snake pass summit you pass a couple of surprise waterfalls.

One of the most noted of the Peak District’s tops. Nestled around Errwood Reservoir it make’s for a nice scenic outing but not the best of weather day’s for it today. As Breeze said, the highest point in Cheshire and a UK designated Marilyn.

A place I walk regularly, whether to start the great ridge toward Mam Tor, or coming back from that direction to head down into hope. A gradual gradient with stone steps so manageable in all weather, just very windy a lot of the time!

There are amazing views from here down over to Glossop. Also worth a visit is nearby Lower Shelf Stones - there won't be anyone else there!
