If your watch your step in the woods the area is full of grouse

Large flocks of starlings can be seen in late summer after riding under the bridge. The bridge offers great views along Bideford Quay and on the Torridge Bridge.

A quiet spot to take in the sights of the river Torridge saltmarshes, an ecosystem that supports many special plants and rare invertebrates. Be careful though, the wooden boards can be a bit slippery when wet.

Tamar lakes are a scenic place to visit with a gravel track that circulates around it, it does however have a couple off places that can get boggy after heavy rain!

Stroll along the glorious sand dunes that make up part of the beautiful Northam Burrows Country Park on the North Devon coast. From the dunes, you can enjoy sensational views across the Bristol Channel, and, on a clear day, you may be able to see all the way over to the Welsh coast.

The strata rock formations along this stretch of coast are stunning, the paths has some incredibly tough climbs and whether you are running or walking I recommend taking moments to soak ok in the views here.

The North End lighthouse stands on the northern tip of Lundy. If you're running on the island, it's the obvious destination. Run the spine of Lundy and then loop back along the western shore for an amazing wild loop.

The only pub on Lundy and the social hub of the island. If you visit for a run, walk, paddle or climb you should visit the pub. It's always open, but only serves alcohol between the licensed hours. Lundy is managed by the Landmark trust, who run the pub and most of the accommodation on the island.

A bit of a diversion of the South West Coast Path if you're running but well worth the effort. The beach is large at low tide but quite small at high tide, it's rocky and has a great wave cut platform. Blackchurch Rock is an amazing double arch. The seaward face has some brilliant rock climbing.

Hartland Point marks the western limit of the Bristol Channel. When you are looking out to sea, the Atlantic Ocean is on your left. Amazing views out towards Lundy Island. The lighthouse was built in 1874 and automated in 1984. Hartland Point is visited on the excellent South west Coast Path National Trail. It's a brilliant run from Hartland Quay.
