Beautiful view across to West side of Isle of Wight and The Needles.

The "Fordingbridge Bridge," known as the Great Bridge, is a historic seven-arched medieval stone bridge in the town of Fordingbridge, Hampshire, England, over the River Avon. While the current structure dates from various periods, including significant 19th-century widening, the original medieval bridge was built before 1252. It remains a prominent landmark, with views of the bridge best enjoyed from the nearby park or The George pub.  

Starting point for a nice bike ride along the beach.

Lovely road down towards Brockenhurst but was quite a bit of traffic on the summer midweek I rode it. Tarmac pretty good. Cattle grids as to be expected to rattle the fillings loose.

Another great lane to ride in the New Forest. It may be flat in the forest but if the wind is in your face, things can get tough.

One of the more scenic inner roads of the new forest. Can be busy with other traffic so take care.

Well worth a visit to this quaint little forest town. Always a good place for a cafe stop and a shallow ford to cross on the way in/out of the high street. Or go past the ford on the Burley road and take the next turning on the left and left at the junction into the high street and cafes/ Tesco Express etc.

Fast easy road, good surface leading into Brockenhurst and a cafe stop.

Open moorland, can be quite windswept and often forest ponies stepping out into this section of road so caution is advised.However this is a nice sweeping curve into Brockenhurst and cars are usually considerate here. Plus usually low traffic area.

Good fast cycling, undulating topography but generally good. Watch the road surface. Lovely woodland either side.

Gateway into the New Forest from the South. Wootton Bridge is also a nice picnic spot next to shallow water. Also gateway onto the old railway gravel track leading to Castleman Trailway in Ringwood.

£1 each way for a single person, I love these quirky forms of crossing. Between Sandbanks and Studland.

Hire a bike or use your second bike. Don't use your expensive nice bike along here. Reason one. High chance of it being stolen. The promenade these days has a bad element there. reason two. Sand.... Oh so much sand. And it can ruin your bikes mechanisms before you get the chance to clean it

This open space is perfect for picnicking and enjoying a day with family and friends. The grassy area is great for games and the Ober Water river is just a stone's throw away.

The end of the line. You can either catch a ferry to the otherside or turn back.... that's it... no alternatives. 🤣

There are documentary references to the building of "A Bridge on the River Stour adjacent to the White Mill" in the year 1175. Although the bridge you'll see today is probably a sixteenth century structure (somewhat hacked around by the Victorians). It is known, from an investigation of the foundations a few years ago, that the bridge stands on timber pilings which have themselves been carbon dated to the twelfth century. This is alleged to be the oldest bridge site in Dorset. Note the bridge warning plate "Any person wilfully damaging any part of this County Bridge will be guilty of Felony and upon conviction liable to be Transported For Life by the court"
