The patronage of this church – dedicated to Saint Thomas of Canterbury – takes us back in time to the 12th century, but geographically we remain in southeastern England. Thomas Becket (born 1118) was Archbishop of Canterbury and, in the dispute between the Church and the Crown (King Henry II), a "martyr of canon law and ecclesiastical freedom," as Pope Alexander III put it on the occasion of his canonization (1173, just three years after Thomas's violent death). His feast day in the calendar of saints is December 29th. Nice little tap room within the Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower, you can walk into the area for free and when I visited there were approx 20 taps on. A band was playing, and it looked like an Oktoberfest event, as several people were wearing Lederhosen.

Please check opening hours for the public toilets around gosport area if you want to start early, usually after 8am all open till late

This entire trail on shared-use pathways takes the rider along the Solent coastline, continuing the wonderful sea views. Plenty of opportunities to stop for coffee, cake and/or ice-creams!
