A brilliant pub with great food on a really nice off-road route through this areas. Definitely worth the ride and stop to “rehydrate” and refuel. The tables outside are great for stopping, getting off the bike and recapping the ride.

The Icknield Way is an ancient path linking east and west of England may date back as far as 6000BC.

Just out of Great Offley to the east, this lovely stretch along Aldwick's Plantation (with some bluebells in the spring and summer months on the way), is a lovely and peaceful way to walk. The plantation's trees block the noise of the A505 just to the north of you, and there are soothing open views of the surrounding countryside ahead of you and to the south.

An easy, mostly flat track runs here between Westmill Lane, just outside the Westmill suburb of Hitchin, and Hexton Road. About halfway, you will cross Hitchin Road (the crossing is called Punch's Cross) with pleasant views down the road to the north. All the way through, there are lovely views of the hilly countryside. At sunset or sunrise, the spectacle is amazing.

Deacon Hill (172m), from which there are stunning views in essentially any direction (as long as you don't stare at your boots) is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (the summit area is rich in plant species, and there are birds here such as buzzards and numerous species of butterflies, too). There is a bench to sit on as well. The hill is a gorgeous place to be and marvel at the beauty of the world.

A beautiful woodland and rows of trees, pretty wide-open fields and grassland and gorgeous views of miles and miles of the countryside from here. Life is good.

Coming out of the woods on the Chiltern Way here will provide you with an absolutely stunning view of the countryside down below and, right next to you, of the Knocking Hoe National Nature Reserve. This is chalk grassland, supporting rare plants such as moon carrot and field fleawort. There is a viewing platform nearby with some information about the reserve too.

A very nice and quiet lane to walk on, away from the streets and traffic noise, amongst the trees and with great countryside views, not to mention the strategically well-placed bench on the way!
