The thick, persistent fog at around 0°C and some wind cause bizarre ice formations to appear on the branches of the trees.

Accessible via hiking trails from the north and east sides. Signs from the B130 (Nibelungenstraße) guide the way. The outer bailey has been closed since 2015, and the inner bailey is only accessible during certain times. A viewing platform on the keep offers a sweeping view of the Eferding Basin.

I have to agree with Elisabeth here; the Danube remains hidden behind the trees. You should also be careful here because the terrain is unsafe.

The Stauf Castle ruins are an impressive medieval hilltop castle in Haibach ob der Donau, built in the first half of the 12th century by Wernhard de Stove, an ancestor of the Counts of Schaunberg

The Schaunberg ruins, often called Schaunburg, are one of the most impressive historical sites in Upper Austria. They tower above the Eferding Basin in the municipality of Hartkirchen and were once the largest castle complex in the state. Built around 1150 by Heinricus de Scovenberch, a member of the Julbach noble family, they are the ancestral seat of the Counts of Schaunberg and the center of the county of the same name. Originally approximately 17,500 square meters in size, they were the largest castle complex in Upper Austria.

Beautiful viewpoint, from Inzell the path is partly quite steep and rocky.

A little further on, there's a difficult to very difficult to find and walkable trail. This section of the walk is absolutely not recommended for the elderly or those who are less active!
