Lovely place to sit and watch the wildlife. I've spent some time reading my book here and saw a kingfisher a couple of times.

A bit more basic than The Loft just down the road but open on Tue & Wed when The Loft is closed.

Great stop-off for tea/coffee or snack during a bike ride or walk. Bike and dog friendly. Staff were very friendly. You can sit inside or out.

Osea Island is a relatively unknown Essex retreat in the Blackwater Estuary with private beaches, no shops or restaurants and mainly self catering accommodation.

Great cafe/restaurant at Tollesbury Marina. You can sit outside and overlook the Woodrolfe Creek.

These buildings are 2 magnox nuclear reactors which are now decommissioned, the two buildings will be removed by 2093, this is 136 years after construction began in 1957. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradwell_nuclear_power_station

The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall is one of the oldest churches and oldest buildings still in regular use in the country. Built in 653 by Bishop Cedd it's been a small church for almost 2,000 years.

There are 10 Tiptree Tearooms around the Essex countryside. This one has a wonderful view!

The very end of the road so you'll have to retrace your route, but it's an interesting spot amid the marshes and there are a few cafes and bistros to make this a mid-ride stop.

Scenic cafe overlooking the water (literally over - it’s raised up on stilts). Open Thu-Sun 11am-3pm.

One of the oldest functioning buildings in the country, and built on the gateway of an even older Roman shore fort. The chapel is kept open for visitors. Be aware it's reached by a 0.7km unmade stone path after the tarmac ends at the car park - fine with a gravel bike or if you go carefully on a road bike in decent weather.

Perfect for a coffee or lunch stop literally overlooking the water. Busy at peak times.

Great location by the sea lock where the Blackwater Navigation meets the estuary, looking across to Northey Island.

Can be muddy in winter when walking to the further falls

A Nature Reserve, Chigborough Lakes is set around a number of flooded gravel pits. It is home to a variety of wildlife, including recent sightings of otters. With 2km of trails around the lakes, it is a peaceful place to explore and connect with nature.

Right at the end of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation sits Heybridge Basin. Home of the sea lock which releases the canal out to sea. The basin meant that sea vessels could enter the canal and travel all the way up to Chelmsford. There are two pubs here, the Jolly Sailor and the Old Ship, plus the Lock Tea Room if you are in need of a pitstop.
