If you're in to mountain biking then this is a beautiful place to go.

Where Oreipunga Road dips down into a valley, the views are immense! From either direction, you sweep sown the roads, hugging the valley sides before climbing out the other side.

Despite all the abrupt ups and downs on the other section, of which I prefer to ride the road. This section is a bit gentler and a safer surface. I set out on a frosty, initially dark morning and the wooden board sections are definitely not safe.

Lovely little town. being on the te awa trail makes it a lovely place to cycle to. loads of coffee shops, cafes, and boutique shops to visit.

What could be better than a detour along the bike path along the lake to say goodbye to Taupo? The snow-capped mountains you see to the south are the Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe, and Tongariro volcanoes. Note that the Ngauruhoe served as a filming location for the film Lord of the Rings. This volcano represents Mordor in the film inspired by Tolkien's saga.

This look out looks down the valley from the head of the Waireki Geothermal steam fields. Stem is drawn from the ground and piped to the power station alongside the Waikato river.

This is the home of New Zealand rowing. There is a good watersports center here with a cool cafe (when it's open), launch areas for multiple water sports and play areas for kids. The lake is formed by the concrete dam, the last hydro electric dam on the Waikato river.

A mix of wooden walkways and cobbles above the river and streams along the river bank. Be careful in the wet. The wooden walkways are covered with plastic grids that are particularly slippery when wet. The views are expansive over the river. The route is narrow and shared with walkers so keep the speed down, particularly around the blind bends.
