Alice Baddeley, have you ever ridden this section you are commenting on. The climb from Accrington to Baxenden gets to 6% in places though mainly less than this, hardly flat!

The Hyndburn Greenway is a flat, traffic-free route in Lancashire that follows old railway lines and canal towpaths between Accrington and Blackburn, passing parks, art galleries and former mills. Along the way, you'll also encounter the Ashton Flood Wheel, a striking engineering feature.

Here is the half way point of the Leeds/liverpool Canal. It’s a good spot to stop and have a break.

A traditional village pub. Very down to earth with outdoor seating in the summer. Serves home-made food and a good selection of ales. Whalley has been under media-spotlight recently as it boasts a large range of pubs, bars and restaurants. This has brought an unexpected tourism industry that is not always welcome. As groups of people visit at the week-ends for pub-crawls and other antics. The Dog Inn remains a very local pub. And won't tolerate that type of behavior. But well-behaved muddy paws and boots are welcome.

This is a pretty section of the river. It is often used by locals as a picnic spot.

This river is about 20 miles in length and is a tributary of the River Ribble, winding its way through the Lancashire countryside.

 Leeds and Liverpool canal has a new halfway marker in time and distance in East Lancashire to help celebrate its 200th birthday. Canal and River Trust chief executive Richard Parry rolled up his sleeves and helped install a new milepost on the waterway near Rishton.

Follow the road to St James and you will see a cut through that has a good road to Leeds Liverpool canal. When you get back on the canal the path going back to just riding on the grass a long the canal. Wonderful in summer but muddy in winter.

The views at the top of Coppice, on a clear day, are great. You can see right across Accrington, Huncoat and see right into the distance. There’s a nice trig to cross off the list and as you carry along the path, you’ll reach the monument. A great spot to stop and have a brew and take in the views.

Ride the Leeds Liverpool canal, its a great ride and the views are amazing.
