Hjelmkollen Fortress is a Norwegian fort from the early 20th century, built between 1902 and 1903 to secure the border with Sweden and the mouth of the Iddefjord. After the dissolution of the union between Norway and Sweden in 1905, the fortress was demilitarized under the Karlstad Agreement. Today, the site is under the protection of the Norwegian Armed Forces and is a ventilated lookout point overlooking the old and new Svinesund Bridge.

Camping is permitted overnight from 9 p.m. to 10 a.m. There are restrooms and tables with benches.

The opposite of Simon & Garfunkel's ballad, this is about as calm a scene as there is. Enjoy the peace and water views as you whizz across the bridge.

Vanninga is a beach situated on the shores of the large Femsjøen lake. It's a nice spot if you're looking for a place to swim or relax by the water during your tour. Easily accessible, it makes for a convenient break, especially on warm days

Trollnestjernet is a small forest lake near the Swedish border. Reaching its shore can be a nice goal to take a break on your tour. The paths leading here wind through typical Scandinavian woodland, and you can enjoy the quiet atmosphere by the water before continuing through the surrounding nature.

Hjelmkollen Fort sits in a commanding position above the Svinesund fjord, near the border with Sweden. From here, you get excellent views of both the old and new Svinesund bridges and the surrounding fjord landscape. This border fortification is accessible via paths and serves as a worthwhile viewpoint and rest stop on your bike ride.

Kjeøya is a small island connected to the mainland near Sponvika. It's easily accessible for a stroll or as part of a bike ride exploring the Iddefjord coastline. Follow paths along the shore to enjoy the sea air and the views across the water towards Sweden.
