Between Leira and Fagernes there are two alternatives - the old road on the upside of the E16 and the pedestrian and cycling path "Valdresbanevegen" along the lakeshore. We recommend the latter. It is called Valdresbanevegen after the old rail road. The tracks have been removed, the path has been sealed and is now a popular walking and cycling path.

Breathtaking nature - a great hike with lakes, stone and rocks

If you come from the south, then you have a fantastic descent with wonderful views of the valley to the north and the surrounding mountains. The road is not paved but has hard gravel. This is easy to drive on and there are only a few tight curves, but they are clearly visible from afar. You can let it roll well in parts and enjoy the view.

The waterfall is located below a hydroelectric power station and a small part of the water masses shoot out of the associated pipe. The best view is from the bridge.

If you follow the marked route to the Gravolen, you will pass countless idyllic mountain lakes. There are carpets of cotton grass and the occasional cloudberry.

Here one of the very few signposts shows you the direction to Gravolen or Heklefjell. Then simply follow the red markings that you find on stones and rocks at regular intervals to reach your chosen destination.

These small lakes are just too nice to just walk by. Take a break or a picture and enjoy the view.
