The DNT Rembesdalsseter is a self-catering cabin where you can sleep and buy food. You need a special key for this cabin, which you can rent from the DNT. Payment can be made via the app or afterward using a special form. In addition to a kitchen with a gas stove, DNT mountain cabins usually offer a spacious living area with comfortable seating. During the 2025 summer season, a cabin warden/hostess was on site. This person primarily handled the allocation of booked or unbooked beds and the sale of food. Therefore, the DNT key was not required.

The DNT Fjällstation Krækkja is a full-board hostel during the season, where you can sleep and enjoy breakfast and dinner, as well as various other items during the day, such as cakes/waffles and soup. It's also a great place to take a break. Krækkja is the oldest cabin on the Hardangervidda plateau, having opened in 1879. The cabin is beautifully situated by Lake Storkrækkja with a view of Hallingskarvet. Families with children, retirees, cabin hikers, and day trippers all come here.

The cabin is an excellent starting point for various one-day and multi-day tours. The small town of Finse is located on the railway line from Oslo to Bergen, making arrival and departure relatively straightforward.

At Easter, many people enjoy hiking from hut to hut on the Hardangervidda.

Don't hike in mid-June! There's massive amounts of snow, so you can't see the trail most of the way, and you have to check the Komoot app to make sure you're not walking over a frozen lake covered in snow. It was snowing everywhere, so we more than doubled our time! Additionally, there were some very dangerous sections where we were forced to hike over steep, avalanche-prone sections over several meters of snow.

Finsevatnet is a high-altitude lake located right next to the tiny village of Finse, at 1,214 meters above sea level in the heart of southern Norway. The Bergen Line railway skirts its edge, offering passengers stunning views of this glacial-fed lake framed by snow-dusted peaks and sweeping mountain plateaus.
