This is the Baroque so-called Rega Wing, dating from 1723, of the University Hall. Until 1914 (and its subsequent destruction), the university library was also located here. Anyone who wants to enter the University Hall itself will likely know that the entrance to this former cloth hall is on the other side (Naamsestraat). Since you're here, you might want to take a closer look at this Rega Wing—and note the list of names of "victims of the old market" on the 1924 memorial on the facade. Where parties and drinking have been going on for decades, in 1914 it was nothing but destruction and devastation. Cheers!

The Stella Artois brewery is located in the heart of Leuven. In the city registers of Leuven, we find a record of excise duties for the Den Hoorn brewery as early as 1366. It was at this brewery that Sébastien Artois became master brewer on June 13, 1708. His name thus became inextricably linked to the brewery and the city of Leuven. In 1926, the Artois brewery launched a Christmas beer, following the tradition of the time. It was called "Stella," the Latin word for "star." The beer was such a success that the brewer decided to market it permanently. Our Stella Artois still exists today. The horn and the year 1366 are still mentioned in the logo, references to the beer's origins. In recent decades, the large pond has increasingly developed into a place where gentle recreation (walking, jogging, etc.) goes hand in hand with ecology and nature conservation, especially with the Lovenarenbroek, which is now also a nature reserve. The large pond is ideal for birdwatching. If you pay close attention, you're sure to see beaver tracks here and there. And if you have time, occasionally take a look on the other side, with and behind the stream.
