The dune forests that run from Vosseslag to Wenduine, interrupted by the picturesque De Haan, are among the most beautiful and unique pieces of nature on the Belgian coast. You walk along pleasant, undulating footpaths through soothing dune forests and more open dune landscape. A unique biotope where exceptional fauna and flora thrive (including goat orchid, dune star and coastal grasshopper). Along the way there are various play areas (such as the long slide on the Slierberg) and places to relax or have a picnic.

This modest memorial plaque is for Jan Carton, who died in 2013 while jogging. He died of heart failure at this location at the age of 47. A place to pause for a moment.

The Dune Forests of De Haan are one of the green pearls on the coast. The area consists of three parts and is 152 hectares in size. From west to east, these are the Dune Forests of Klemskerke, Vlissegem and Wenduine. The nature reserves De Zandpanne and De Kijkuit are connected to this, both managed by Natuurpunt. This creates a large and varied dune area with forest, dune scrub and dune grasslands.

De Haan's picturesque tram station dates from the period 1875-1914, when the Belgian coastal tram system was first developed. The listed tram station is a beautiful example of the Anglo-Norman half-timbered style so typical of the Belle Époque architecture of our coast. Over the years, the tram station became the seaside resort's flagship building. After the station was threatened with demolition in 1977, the municipality of De Haan purchased the building and repurposed it as a tourist office.
