Very beautiful passage and peaceful landscape

The RAVeL route between Ath and Blaton is a quiet and green cycle route that runs along old railways and the charming Blaton-Ath Canal. This flat and well-maintained path offers beautiful views of the Walloon countryside, with fields, forests and small waterways along the way.

To do ! Great spot for mountain biking. Check the inflation of your tires carefully to have the necessary grip and climb more easily.

Located in the heart of the Haine valley, between Mons and Tournai, the marshy complex of Harchies-Hensies-Pommeroeul, better known as the Marais d'Harchies, is a major site for the fauna and flora of Wallonia. Covering an area of 550 hectares, this site of great biological interest is home to many species and constitutes an important transit site during bird migration and offers ideal conditions for the nesting and wintering of numerous species. In 1782, the Compagnie des Mines d'Anzin had an imposing building built on the edge of the Bon-Secours forest to house a Newcomen machine. The aim is to combat the flow of groundwater, the main obstacle to coal mining. In a state of ruin until recently, the building is now experiencing a new life. The exterior envelope was renovated and a fire pump was reinstalled. The connecting canal is 22.6 kilometres long and connects Blaton to Ath and has 21 locks. It is beautiful and usually quiet to cycle along the towpath.
