As part of his adjunct professorship, architect Daniel Libeskind collaborated with students at Leuphana University to develop the design for the central building. Anyone who perceives the design of the Leuphana central building as provocative or an anomaly has likely become too complacent with the surrounding environment and what it represents. Only a place that breaks with the existing order can convey a sense of new beginnings, hope, and courage. The Leuphana central building stands perpendicular to the axis of the campus, which was once a barracks, in order to challenge the status quo and stir up memories. From Uelzener Straße, it juts out from the line of barracks buildings like a finger pointing out that something for the future is being created here: the realization of the vision of contributing to an open society as a university in a rural area.
