Beautiful crossing over the Leie!

Casier Castle was built in neoclassical style between 1847 and 1852. After the death of the first residents (and couple) Felix Deruyck and Nathalie Storme, the castle came into the hands of Baron Victor Casier. His name still lives on today in the name of the castle, which actually served as a summer residence. The castle is not open to the public, at least not everywhere. Because for more than 40 years you can go to the catering establishment in the castle for a bite to eat and a drink. Especially in the summer you can enjoy the view of the 8 hectare Baron Casier park from the local terrace.

In the eastern corner of Baron Casier Park you will find a unique pump windmill. This example is the last such small windmill from the 19th century in Flanders. Originally it was used to fill the castle ponds with water from the lower Gaverbeek. The open construction in particular makes it a unique example: you can see the entire mill mechanism from the outside. The mill has been a protected monument since 2002. A thorough and faithful renovation followed in 2005, so that you can admire the mill in its full original glory. FACT Ultimately, the pump mill was only in use for about 25 years. Owner Felix De Ruyck had it built in the period 1872-1883. It was already decommissioned in 1908.
