Beautiful nature reserve with many spring zones where a yellow sea of Marsh Marigolds can be seen in the spring.

A former watermill on the Watermolenbeek stream, formerly owned by the Van Der Stock miller family, who also owned windmills, including the Bellinckmolen in Deftinge. It remained operational until the mid-20th century, but then fell into disrepair due to its vacancy. The completely rusted paddle wheel disappeared. Only the weir and bridge span remain. During heavy rainfall, the stream becomes a roaring waterfall, but most of the time you'll be gazing at the rippling water as it continues its journey via Gemeldorp, Schendelbeke, and so on to the Dender River. This stream also forms the border between the sub-municipalities of Deftinge and Sint-Martens-Lierde. The street in both sub-municipalities had the same name, and this remained the case after the merger. The mill is said to have once belonged to the Carthusians of Sint-Maartens-Bos. The Lindeveldmolen is a watermill on the Watermolenbeek in Sint-Martens-Lierde in the Belgian municipality of Lierde in the Flemish Ardennes. The corn mill was already mentioned in 1243; it became the property of the priory of the Carthusians. The undershot mill was in operation until the 1960s.

You have arrived at a historical place as a (silent) visitor. In 1329, Jan Gheylinck founded the Carthusian priory of Sint Maartens Bos here. This councillor of the then Count of Flanders was very wealthy. From the entrance gate to the Carthusian you will discover a number of still visible historical relics. You can lie down between the flower beds and fantasise about what has disappeared. Walk around and take in the site. Also take a peek around the corner (back) because there is the Carthusian church, exceptional in this region with a Rococo interior. This church is actually the monastery chapel that was elevated to parish church in 1802. A little further, opposite the atmospheric cemetery, you will see the municipal library with the bronze Carthusian statuette by Dirk De Middeleer from 1995. The Carthusian walking route starts here. Before leaving the Kartuizer site it is recommended to enjoy a good 'Kartuizer beer', there is also Kartuizer liqueur (a green nectar of the gods, but very strong) - in café De Kartuizer ... Cheers!

The village of Hemelveerdegem, located in the province of East Flanders, is a charming base for all hikers who want to enjoy the quiet Flemish nature. The picturesque village is located in the middle of vast fields and meadows.

On the night of May 27-28, 1944, a formation of Lancaster II bombers departed from Waterbeach, near Cambridge, heading for Aachen to bomb, among other things, a key marshalling yard ("Rothe Erde"). This operation was successful. However, one of the aircraft, commanded by 28-year-old Australian Lieutenant Lloyd Taylor, crashed over Moenebroek. The precise circumstances remain unclear to this day. The seven-member crew—four British and three Australian—were killed. It was not until 1999 that pieces of the wreckage were excavated from the swamp forest and recovered. One of the largest pieces was the propeller hub, which has stood as a monument on the edge of Moenebroek since 2010.
