The Seraing Arboretum boasts a rich collection of tree species, including a giant sequoia measuring approximately 38 meters tall with a circumference of 6.60 meters (approximately 2.10 meters in diameter). The giant sequoia is renowned for its ability to withstand impacts (its bark is approximately 3 cm thick) and was used in firebreaks because its moist bark provides good resistance to forest fires. There are also Vancouver firs measuring approximately 51 meters tall, though some have died standing. If you'd like to see for yourself, you can make the "lumberjack's cross," an easy and fun activity. Please respect the trees by not tearing the bark off the sequoia and by staying on the paths. Augustinian Abbey on the Meuse River, whose origins date back to 1075. The complex features an impressive corner tower, gateway, abbey church, dovecote, watermill, brewery, and other outbuildings. Later, it also housed a tax collection house and the abbot's palace. Today, it's a large school complex that can be very busy on a Wednesday afternoon.

I didn't get any further because of new asphalt, probably two weeks after my post there is fantastic asphalt here!!

Small church, it is not the main church of this town.

The Arboretum du Bois de la Vecquée is a hidden gem with a beautiful collection of trees and plants from all over the world. This peaceful walking area offers winding paths that take you past impressive tree species and green glades.

The church is part of the Open Churches network. You can therefore visit it every day from 10am to 5pm (opening hours extended from 9am to 6pm from 01/04 to 31/10). Built in sandstone and limestone, this church dates back to 1831. The tower itself could date back to the 11th century. This massive tower is more reminiscent of a defensive structure than a religious building. In feudal times, it dominated the modest houses in the neighborhood and served as a refuge for the villagers. The surrounding cemetery, raised and fenced, protected the livestock. The cemetery was restored and converted into a landscaped cemetery in 1999 following the collapse of part of the wall in 1998, which caused several burials to be carried out on the square.

View of the Aigremont castle perched on its rock. In the 12th century, Aigremont was a fortress that belonged to the church of Liège. In 1715, Canon Mathias Clercx acquired the lordship, which he enriched by building a castle designed as a pleasure residence. It is a remarkable example of Liège architecture from the beginning of the 18th century. Although its construction was inspired by the French architectural treatises in vogue at the time, it is nevertheless characterized by a very practical design adapted to the needs of its owner. It is the result of the influence of the Louis XIV style and the Mosan tradition. The luxuriant interior contrasts with the severity of the exterior architecture. The lounges are decorated with fine woodwork and murals. The stairwell is composed of a set of trompe-l'oeil frescoes. Finally, the "French-style" gardens invite you to stroll. It has been owned by the Dumont Wauthier company since March 2001. You can visit it at the Flémalle tourist office.
