At a height of 2.25 meters, the statue "The Virgin of the Magnificat" sits on a Louis XIV style base two meters high. It is made of bronze, weighs approximately one ton and was inaugurated in 1930. It is the work of the sculptor J. Thiry de Robermont. It is similar to the statue which dominates the fountain in Vinâve d'île in Liège.

There is some height difference on the slag heap. And there is no real walking path. That is why you are sometimes confronted with a steeper section.

The Terril des Quatre Jean is a slag heap located in the Liège region. It is part of the former coal basin of Liège and is located near the municipalities of Beyne-Heusay, Liège and Fléron. The slag heap has an area of approximately 7.40 hectares and a volume of 500,000 cubic meters. It is partially burned and has a more flattened shape. The Terril des Quatre Jean is accessed from Rue de la Station and is located near the Queue-du-Bois train station. It is surrounded by a wooded area and offers beautiful views of the surroundings.

On the Place du Magnificat in Tignée, one can only be surprised to discover this monumental statue with a height of 2.25 meters which weighs approximately one ton. It sits on a Louis XIV style base two meters high, it was cast by the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles. Two dates appear in relief on the front face: 1706 (probable date of the sculpture by the Del Cour school) and 1930 (date of the statue's inauguration). It represents the Virgin known as “the Magnificat” (to the glory of the Virgin Mary) and is similar to the statue which dominates the fountain in Vinâve d’Ile in Liège. But how did this grandiose idea come about to create such a monument? In the presbytery garden, the parish priest one day discovered a small terracotta statue placed on loose brick and in very poor condition. The torn head rested without a neck on the shoulders. Additionally, the right hand was missing. The whitish coating which covered it had been soiled by the weather. After expertise and restoration, this 52 centimeter high statuette was attributed to the school of Liège sculptor Jean Del Cour (1631-1707). It comes from the primitive chapel of Tignée located in the center of the current cemetery. In 1930, all of Belgium was preparing to grandly celebrate the centenary of independence, and celebration committees were formed everywhere. The village priest, Mr Mélon, had the idea of placing a bronze statue of the Virgin in the center of the village, between the lime trees. More information on the site: www.evegnee-tignee.be

Old house with a wonderful garden, unfortunately for us it is private property but worth seeing even from the outside.
