Very beautiful nature reserve, marshy meadows in rainy periods

At a crossroads of quiet streets

It's nice to see the old wagon. You can climb up and take a look inside. It's a shame Natuurpunt (Nature Conservation Society) put graffiti there.

Lourdes grotto (local interpretation of the grotto in Lourdes) founded and consecrated in 1876, which was built in the context of the enormous devotion to Mary at the end of the 19th century (also and especially in Flanders), where numerous Mary processions took place in the month of May.

A piece of history from Waregem/Zulte that even many locals do not know. There are still some tracks with a wagon on them.

A relief to walk here

Meersen... that means marshy land: damp hayfields, rows of pollard willows and old cut-off meanders. Thanks to the high groundwater level in spring and the winter floods, many special plants flourish here. In the wet hayfields you will find marsh rue, cuckoo flower and sharp buttercup. Around the many old meanders of the Gaverbeek, amphibians and dragonflies find a suitable home all year round. The meadows also exert a great attraction on many meadow birds. Here you walk through an old railway bed of the Waregem-Ingelmunster line. Incidentally, the tracks have largely remained and are now considerably overgrown and thus form an ecological gem in the meadow landscape that, among other things, can count the viviparous lizard as a regular guest. Here and there are gates where you can leave the railway embankment and walk into the meadows, of course following the marked paths to allow the vulnerable nature to thrive.
