The Ebenstein is part of the geotope "Rock ensemble of Jochenstein on the Donauleite"! At the Donauleite, several rock ridges made of eye and pearl gneiss protrude from the slope, each ending in steep cliffs (10 to 15 m). A system of fissures that are almost at right angles to one another is responsible for the cuboid shape of the towers. The block flow between the ridges also consists of strikingly geometric gneiss blocks. The cliffs offer a fantastic view of the Danube's V-shaped valley and of Jochenstein (cliffs below the hiking trail; beware of falling!!!). Bavarian State Office for the Environment (LfU). 10월 22, 2024, Penzenstein Viewpoint, Chapel, and Cross
The Donaublick Penzenstein is a viewing point overlooking the Danube. Visitors here enjoy magnificent views of the Danube Valley, the Jochenstein Power Plant, and Engelhartszell. The most popular tourist destination in the municipality is a must-see. At Penzenstein there is also a small chapel, where mass is held during the summer months (every 13th of the month) and which is also a popular pilgrimage destination. There is also a rest area on the Donausteig trail. Source: https://www.urlaub-neustift.at/genussurlaub/sehenswuerdigkeiten/details/6-donaublick-penzenstein.html

10월 22, 2024, View of Jochenstein
The name Jochenstein comes from the small rocky island that lies directly in front of the house in the middle of the Danube. A shrine and a stone figure of Saint John Nepomuk, the patron saint of sailors, are enthroned on it. The rock is a well-known place among sailors not least because the custom of baptizing new sailors on the Jochenstein continued into the 20th century. A legend also tells of the devil who wanted to build a wall in the Danube in order to flood the neighboring Austrian community of Engelhartszell. During his plan, the devil's stone fell into the Danube at this point. According to another story, the Nixa Isa lives under the Jochenstein and bewitches the sailors. 10월 22, 2024, Neujochenstein Castle Ruins
The Neujochenstein castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle on a hill above the Danube near the Jochenstein at 583 m above sea level. It is located on the outskirts of Riedl, a village in the municipality of Untergriesbach in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau. The Neujochenstein castle was probably founded due to a lack of space on the Altjochenstein castle, which is only a few hundred meters away, and was first mentioned in a document in 1299, when its owner, Eberwein von Jochenstein, granted Bishop Wernhard of Passau (Diocese of Passau) extensive access rights. In 1310 the castle was sold and occupied by caretakers (burgraves or bailiffs who were responsible for the administration and defense of a castle or monastery) until the 16th century. After that the castle quickly fell into disrepair. From 2006 to 2007 the municipality of Untergriesbach carried out renovation work on the remains of the castle.
