A pleasant rest area with an interesting history. "Snake's throat ball" is the colloquial term for an iron ball fired from an early type of artillery piece, the so-called "field serpent." These cannons were slender and long-barreled, resembling a snake, hence the name. The balls weighed 1 pound (approximately 5 cm in caliber).

Great food - great value for money. Charging the e-bike battery was no problem. Friendly staff and very fast service.

Heiligenkreuz Abbey, with its significant history and beautiful buildings, is worth a visit. Many parts of the abbey can only be visited with a guided tour. The squares and churches are freely accessible.

Giovanni Giuliani's Baroque Way of the Cross at Heiligenkreuz, with its numerous chapels and statues of saints, forms a magnificent ensemble. Here, piety and art once again form a wonderful union.

The Heiligenkreuz Cemetery is worth a visit. In addition to the graves of the canons of Heiligenkreuz, this cemetery also contains the grave of Baroness Mary Vetsera, who died on January 30, 1889, along with Crown Prince Rudolph in nearby Mayerling. There are several gruesome stories surrounding the grave itself.

The entire area of the Füllenberg dairy is very inviting.

When we passed by, a few bottles of wine and a glass were waiting for the thirsty hiker (see photos). Nice idea. (If only we could be sure that some half-witted people hadn't played some disgusting prank with the already opened bottles...!)
