이곳은 고대 기독교 시대부터 도시의 종교 중심지였던 라벤나 대성당이 내려다보이는 광장입니다. 이 지역은 주교 건물 주변의 공간이 재편성된 18세기와 19세기 사이에 현재의 모습을 갖추게 되었습니다. 광장 중앙에는 도시 보호의 상징으로 세워진 신앙의 대상인 성모 마리아의 기둥이 있습니다. 꼭대기에는 라벤나 공동체의 종교적, 역사적 상징인 성모 마리아상이 모셔져 있습니다.

단테의 무덤은 라벤나의 역사 지구 중심부, 산 프란체스코 대성당 옆에 있습니다. 이곳은 1321년 단테 알리기에리가 사망한 후 라벤나로 옮겨진 그의 유해를 안치하고 있는 기념물입니다. 현재의 무덤은 18세기에 건축가 카밀로 모리자가 만든 작은 신고전주의 양식의 사당입니다. 외부에는 피렌체 시에서 매년 기증하는 기름으로 작동하는 봉헌 램프가 있는 단순한 기념 공간이 있습니다. 이곳은 신곡의 시인의 기억과 관련된 주요 장소 중 하나입니다.

The climb and the town are quite popular with local cyclists, the climbs are not demanding and several road and gravel tours pass through them.
