The characteristic medieval town of Corenno Plinio is located in the municipality of Dervio on a steep rock spur in Lake Como. The place developed over the centuries around the castle walls, with houses standing close together, connected by narrow streets and stone stairs that lead to the lake. When you visit this place, time seems to stand still, every stone tells a story. The impressive panorama and the grace of the surroundings make Corenno Plinio a unique place in the world. The first official documents showing the presence of a castle owned by the Andreani family in Corenno Plinio go back to 1271. In the 14th century, the Corenno feudal estate passed to the Visconti family, then to the Malacrida and in 1450 to Prince Francesco Sforza from Milan. In the 17th century, during the Spanish occupation, the walls and towers of the castle were strengthened to defend the place against the raids of the mercenaries and Alemanni. In the 18th century the castle lost its role as a defensive structure, part of the walls were torn down to allow a view of the lake and to create more space for the vineyards that were subsequently cultivated.
