Santa Maria della Pieve stands isolated on a hill and is one of the best preserved Romanesque churches in Mantua. its origins date back to around the year 1000. The parish church, entirely in terracotta, has a single nave interior and is covered by a wooden truss structure. In the presbytery there is the high relief of Santa Maria Nova, from the 14th century. Of particular interest are the fragments of 13th century frescoes. In the 1950s it underwent a significant conservative restoration, to repair the damage caused by the Second World War. In the surrounding garden there are some steles dedicated to the Risorgimento battles.
