The fourteenth-century basilica of San Bassiano is the only building left standing in Laus Pompeia, today Lodi Vecchia, which survived the destruction perpetrated by the Milanese army in 1158. Emperor Frederick Barbarossa decided to rebuild Laus a few kilometers away, on the Eghezzone hill and founded the new city: Laus Nova, today's Lodi.
