'l Purtun, in Italian "The Gate," in Rossana. This is the ancient gateway to the artisans' and carters' quarter, dating back to the time of the Gazelli counts. Well restored and with an explanatory sign beside it, it is located on the main road that runs through the village, with a tiny square in front featuring benches and interesting wooden statues. To enjoy it, you have to turn off the main road and enter Rossana, but it's absolutely worth the effort. -- ['l Purtun (Rossana)]

Chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony, in Piasco. Dependent on the nearby (and modern) church of Saint Anthony, the chapel dates back to the 16th century but has been remodeled several times over time. The row of kidney-shaped windows surrounding it is interesting. Easily reached on the old road from Piasco to Venasca, now used only by sparse local traffic.

3월 30, 2025, Historic Center of Piasco
Piasco, located on the left of the Varaita stream, has ancient origins. It was a Roman customs station and then passed from the Lords of Venasca to the Marquises of Saluzzo up to the Savoy. Among the medieval testimonies still visible today, the civic tower, once a bell tower, and the Church of San Giovanni stand out. The Porporati castle, dating back to 1655, dominates the historic center.

3월 29, 2025, Ponte del Diavolo di Dronero
The Devil's Bridge in Dronero, built in 1428 over the Maira torrent, is a remarkable example of medieval civil engineering. This bridge has three arches of different sizes and is slightly curved, with lateral parapets surmounted by swallow-tailed Ghibelline battlements. Originally, on the pillar of the smaller arch towards the centre of Dronero, there was a drawbridge, whose iron hinge was found under the road surface; this was removed in 1810 when the entrance passage was widened and the Ghibelline battlements were restored. The name "Devil's Bridge" comes from a local legend: it is said that, to overcome the difficulties in building the bridge, the inhabitants made a pact with the devil, promising him the soul of the first person to cross it. However, the inhabitants tricked the devil by having a stray dog cross first, infuriating the devil who abandoned the bridge. Today, the bridge is a symbol of Dronero and offers a panoramic view of the town, representing an unmissable stop for those visiting the Maira Valley.

3월 27, 2025, Strada dei Cannoni
The Strada dei Cannoni is an iconic military road, built in the 18th century on the watershed between the Maira Valley and the Varaita Valley. The intent was to facilitate the passage of men and military vehicles, but - despite its name - it was never used for military purposes and today remains an exciting route for mountain bike lovers. Here, in fact, you can pedal with the fresh air caressing your face and letting yourself be enchanted by the magnificent panorama that ranges from the Maritime Alps to the Cottian Alps.

3월 18, 2025, Casa Bart | Bike & Outdoor Hospitality
Casa BART is a bike hotel ideal for lovers of outdoor holidays. Villar San Costanzo, where it is located, is a strategic starting point for exploring the surrounding area by bike, the Maira, Varaita and Grana valleys, and for riding the Eurovelo 8. The area offers routes suitable for different disciplines, from gravel to road cycling and mountain biking, with options ranging from simple excursions to challenging multi-day tours. The owners, Luca and Augusta, cycling enthusiasts, offer their guests numerous specialized services, including a bike room, workshop, bike rental, washing area, laundry, gym, massages and the possibility of requesting snacks and dinners. At Casa BART you can truly breathe the love for two wheels. If Augusta expresses her creativity in the kitchen, Luca is an excellent Bike Manager, who can provide simple advice to the search and sharing of tracks that lead as much as possible to pedaling on secondary roads, away from heavy traffic, up to the actual accompaniment, being a Cycling and Hiking Guide of the Piedmont Region. In the surrounding area you can discover the blossoming of peach and apple trees in the Saluzzo area, the ancient villages of Roccabruna, the climbs of the Giro d'Italia and the paths of Monte Pagliano. Casa BART is also a stop on the Percorsi Occitani, a circular trek in the Maira Valley.

It is one of the most spectacular passes in Piedmont. Without a doubt it is in my Top 5 of Piedmont (Fauniera, Agnello, Nivolet, Colle delle Finestre and Colle di Sampeyre). For many it is a great unknown since Fauniera and Agnello are around it, two passes with a lot of name. It has the characteristics of a colossus: it is long, hard, high (over 2,000m) and has privileged views. Colle Sampeyre connects the Maira valley with the Varaita valley, where the town of Sampeyre is located. It has 3 slopes: two through the Maira valley and one through the Varaita valley. Of the 3, the most special for me is the one through the Elba valley, which starts at Ponte Marmora. The road on the 2 sides of the Maira valley is not in good condition so I suggest going up one of these and going down the side of the Varaita valley, which is in good condition as it was resurfaced in 2023. Obviously, we are talking about narrow roads, with no road signs and no hard shoulder. There is very little traffic, so you only have to worry about the ramps, the views and enjoying nature. Regarding the ban on going up the Elba valley... no problem. You can go up by bike perfectly. At the start of the climb the locals put up a barrier to discourage tourists and prevent them from disturbing their peace and the mountains. Cyclists are very welcome. It has been part of the Giro d'Italia on 2 occasions. On the second occasion, in 2003, it will go down in history as the snowy stage, where Gilberto Simoni crowned and Pantani fell on the descent trying to catch him. As well as being a Top 5 in Piedmont, it is also a Top 15 in Italy. It is a mountain pass that I am very fond of. I always recommend it to cyclists who go through that area.

A destination mainly for cyclists and motorcyclists, but also for walkers. You can go up from the municipality of Sampeyre (Val Varaita) or from the municipality of Elva (Val Maira). It crosses the Strada dei Cannoni, a long dirt road of 42 km between the 2 valleys, which touches many municipalities, and starts from Colletta di Rossana and ends at Colle della Bicocca
