Ancient village very well exposed to the sun. Stunning at sunset for exceptional photos. The village itself is a masterpiece of engineering, with houses built one on top of the other, huge cisterns to act as a water reserve and a castle, of the lizard, wonderfully clinging to everything else. The entire village is a gigantic “house of cards” made of stone. It is worth getting lost in its streets. Furthermore, it is also a widespread hotel with rooms scattered throughout the village.

The Ponte Vecchio di Dolceacqua, also known as the Nervia Bridge, is an arch bridge in the Italian municipality of Dolceacqua, Province of Imperia, Liguria Region, spanning the River Nervia. The bridge connects the two districts of Terra and Borgo. The older district of Terra reached the limits of its expansion in the middle of the 14th century, as the available space on this side of the Nervia River was used up. On the opposite side, the new Borgo district was created, which could be reached via the elegant bridge with a single arch with a span of 32 meters. The French painter Claude Monet was inspired by the picturesque sight of the bridge with the Castello dei Doria in the background to create his painting “The Castle of Dolceacqua (1884)” (Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris). Monet described the bridge as a “jewel of lightness”.
