The winery pursues a philosophy based on authenticity, sustainability, and close collaboration with nature. The family relies on the natural perception of wine and aims to inspire and stimulate their fellow people with authentic, vibrant wines. The soil in their vineyards is considered their most important asset, and their primary task is to protect it and provide the vines with a conducive environment. With 2.5 hectares of vineyards on gravelly quartz phyllite at altitudes of 550 to 700 meters, they work carefully to prepare the vines for changes and thus produce authentic wines. The approach in the cellar is minimalist, without unnecessary interventions – the focus is on juicy, smooth, and easy-to-drink wines that invite convivial and enjoyable enjoyment. Michael Oberpertinger, a trained chef who runs the Spitalerhof winery in Klausen, follows a minimalist philosophy in wine production: "As little as possible, as much as necessary." This approach preserves the unique character of the wines and is also reflected in the natural cultivation of the vineyards. The winery specializes in Eisacktal white wines, with Grüner Veltliner playing a particularly important role. The Grüner Veltliner Muga is a winery specialty, where the grapes are harvested in November when they are partially dried and affected by botrytis. The wine is fermented in wooden barrels and aged on the lees, which gives it its unique character. In addition to Grüner Veltliner, the Spitalerhof also grows Sauvignon, Sylvaner, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, and Lagrein. You can enjoy refreshments at the Muga restaurant. Opening Hours: Daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Restaurant: Thursday to Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tours: Wine tastings with three of our wines take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. (free with guest card). There is an additional charge for an in-depth wine discussion with Michael and a tasting of five wines.
