The Museum of Art on the Sea (MAM), located on the beautiful south pier of the city, is a permanent open-air exhibit of contemporary works of art, with an impressive display of 135 sculptures and 10 wall paintings. The artworks, signed by more than 130 different artists coming from every corner of the country and from all over the world, were created during the past editions of the “Scultura Viva” (Living Sculpture) International Sculpture and Painting Symposium, held in San Benedetto since 1997. Works by Mario Lupo, Marcello Sgattoni, Genti Tavanxhiu and Giuseppe Straccia are also exhibited on the pier. Commissioned by “Circolo dei Sambenedettesi”, a local association for the conservation of the city’s cultural heritage, and completed in year 1986, a monument by Mario Lupo proudly stands as the biggest piece in the exhibition: an eight metres high bronze sculpture dedicated to Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Visiting the Museum of Art on the Sea is a really unique experience, not only because of its exhibit, but also thanks to its beautiful setting: a graceful promenade stretching out into the open sea, for a length of over one kilometre. The first half of the walk is dedicated to sculpture, showcasing bas-reliefs, high reliefs and sculptures in the round, created by the artists who took part in the “Scultura Viva” International Symposium and carved on the travertine stone blocks acting as a breakwater on one side of the pier. On the opposite side, one single and bizarre artwork can be found, the creation of local artist Marcello Sgattoni: a fountain made of concrete and river pebbles representing a girl from whose breasts drinking water flows, a celebration of water as the source of all life. The second half of the walk is dedicated to street art painting. On the huge concrete blocks fringing the final stretch of the pier, 10 wonderful murals were painted by renowned artists from all over the world. The Museum of Art on the Sea is always open and free to visit at any time. (c) https://www.comunesbt.it/museodelmare/Engine/RAServePG.php/P/25241MDM0316/L/1

Magnificent waterfall over ten meters high along the Fluvione stream. Its leap is spectacular and can be admired from the stone bridge adjacent to the old Pignoloni mill. Before the waterfall, the stream forms a small lake with very shallow and calm waters where it is possible to find relief from the summer heat.

The Arena waterfall, a natural jewel of Roccafluvione, is a drop of water of over 10 meters, created by the Fluvione stream between steep rocks. Next to it stands the Pignoloni Mill, built in the 17th century. Above the waterfall is a lake created by a weir. In autumn, the lake offers a unique show. The best observation point is the bridge overlooking the waterfall, a stone's throw from the ancient mill of Arena.

Ascoli Piceno is a city of remarkable medieval beauty located in the Marche region. Considered among the most monumental in Italy, this city stands out for its architecture and unique historical heritage. Characterized by towers and bell towers, the historic center is embellished by the warm golden color of travertine, a material that covers most of its streets. The location of the town is particularly suggestive, as it is surrounded on three sides by the waters of the Tronto and Castellano rivers, which converge at this point. The history of Ascoli Piceno embraces different eras, from the ancient times of the Romans to the period of Frederick II and beyond.

The main street leads to the stairway that goes up to the village, here we find some historic villas, mostly abandoned. After stopping in front of the fountain, you go up in a spiral: Palazzo Pardi, dating back to the 18th century, is hidden behind the first bend, then you pass the staircase and after two more hairpin bends you reach the top. In the village, each panoramic point is characterized by a marble parapet. Near the cistern, at the highest point of the town, there is a terrace where you can stop to admire the coast on the border between Marche and Abruzzo.

Ascoli Piceno is a beautiful medieval city in the Marches, considered among the most monumental in Italy. Dotted with towers and bell towers and wrapped in the warm golden color of travertine, which covers almost the entire historic center, the town is surrounded on three sides by the water of the Tronto and Castellano rivers, which flow together here.Piazza del PopoloHistory The history, in this part of the Marches, concerns above all the Middle Ages and Ascoli Piceno, it preserves traces of it in the beautiful architectures. Ancient capital of the Piceni, conquered by the Romans with the whole region in 286 BC. C., the city was long dominated by barbarians, by the Franks, by Federico II and by Francesco Sforza who established a cruel dictatorship until 1482. It is said that Alaric, King of the Visigoths, fascinated by its beauty and aware of its strategic importance, did not want to raze it to the ground, as he did for the other cities. Together with Fermo it was until 1860 the capital of the Marches. The historic center of Ascoli Piceno is full of civil and religious buildings from the Middle Ages. Magnificent Piazza del Popolo overlooked by some of the most important places including Palazzo dei Capitani del Popolo (13th century), the historic Caffè Meletti, the church of San Francesco (13th-16th century) and the Loggia dei Mercanti. Also worth seeing is Piazza Arringo, the oldest in Ascoli, where the baptistery of San Giovanni, the cathedral of Sant'Emidio - the city's cathedral, dedicated to the patron saint - the Bishop's palace and the Arengo palace, seat of the art gallery are located civic. Finally, the churches of Saints Vincenzo and Anastasio (11th-14th centuries), with the facade divided into squares, and that of Sant'Emidio alle Grotte (18th century) are characteristic. Ascoli Piceno is a city to be experienced, strolling in its medieval heart where the most beautiful Renaissance squares of the Marche open and in the streets that still respect the layout of the ancient Roman roads. Absolutely unmissable, then, an aperitif under the arcades, in cafes and pastry shops, thus tasting the irresistible stuffed olives, a masterpiece of Ascoli gastronomy. Those who go to Ascoli Piceno on the first Sunday of August can attend the famous Quintana jousting tournament: a long parade in fifteenth-century costume of the inhabitants of the districts into which the city is divided.
