The stele was unveiled in a ceremony on the 30th anniversary (in 2019). It stands in a green space in the market square in Stavenhagen. It commemorates the fact that the small town saw its first demonstrations and protests against the GDR regime at an early stage – as part of the nationwide movement for change.

Construction of the barracks began in the early 1970s, with many plans dating back to 1972. It was built for the National People's Army (NVA) of the GDR and primarily served as a base for helicopter units of the Air Force. The most well-known unit was Helicopter Wing 5 (KHG-5), which was stationed here. At the end of 1989, it was the only NVA unit to receive twelve modern Mi-24P attack helicopters. After German reunification in 1990, the Bundeswehr (German Federal Armed Forces) took over the site. From January 23, 1993, the barracks officially bore the name Mecklenburgische Schweiz Barracks. The Bundeswehr vacated the barracks in December 2015.

The Ernst Lübbert Monument in Stavenhagen honors the painter and illustrator Ernst Lübbert (1879–1915), who, although born in Warin, grew up in Stavenhagen from 1886 onwards, attended school there, and spent his formative years there. He is best known for his illustrations for works by Fritz Reuter and is honored with his own permanent exhibition in the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum in Stavenhagen.

As a break filler, while the car was being checked, I did a 10 km loop towards Ivenak to Klockow and back to Stemhagen. 80 percent of the route was paved, though.
