The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Graces, originally a Benedictine abbey and since the 15th century a convent of the Franciscan Friars Minor, is one of the oldest religious places in Sassari; it currently also houses a retirement home and is the seat of the Gremio dei Massai Agricoltori. The complex, although valuable from an external and especially internal architectural point of view, is not particularly well-kept and the large space it overlooks (ennobled - no one knows for how long - by a centuries-old oak tree) is becoming a desolate parking lot for cars and campers. Even the friars seem reduced to a sparse and not very healthy presence. But religiosity at the city level - and not only - resists through regularly celebrated masses, religious ceremonies or anniversaries and demonstrations of popular devotion, especially in spring.

9월 19, 2023, Historic Center of Thiesi
According to some sources, the town of Thiesi was founded by Jews deported by the Romans. Today cheese production is the main activity and is home to large dairy industries. The most important historical buildings found there are the seventeenth-century church of Sant'Antonio and the parish church of Santa Vittoria, a beautiful Gothic-Aragonese building built between 1400 and 1590, with Renaissance interior decoration and portal.

This particular structure is the Botanical Garden - Bionaturalistic Pole of the University of Sassari It consists of a long complex of futuristic buildings reminiscent of a sinuous snake. [my photo fails to represent its real look] It has been - and still is - the subject of numerous criticisms both in terms of aesthetics (the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi called it "a horror") and in the political field for its high costs (which are subject to suspicions of irregularities, now investigated by the judiciary) and for the works still to be completed, decades after their beginning.

1월 27, 2021, Osilo (Sassari) e il Castello Malaspina
The Malaspina Castle rises on top of the town of Osilo, at about 650 meters above sea level. It was built by the Malaspina family in the second half of the 13th century, at the end of the Giudicati period. It can be reached by climbing a few flights of stairs, and offers a spectacular 360 degree view of the north of Sardinia.

11월 1, 2020, Chiesa di San Pietro in Silki
San Pietro in Silki Where a village named Silki once stood, now the church of San Pietro overlooks the square of the same name, together with the Franciscan Convent and the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine delle Grazie. The building, originally from the 11th century, has undergone various remodeling over time, alternating the Romanesque style with the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. The façade is from the 17th century with a portal (originally there were three) and a lunette tympanum. The single-nave interior opens into numerous chapels (the first, dedicated to the Virgin, is the most important). At the bottom stands the gilded high altar of exquisite workmanship containing the polychrome ceramic simulacrum of the Madonna delle Grazie with Child. Adjacent to the square and the church, there are the "Orti di San Pietro", a large green space enclosed by an ancient wall and whose dry terraces include vegetable gardens, vineyards, a citrus grove and a vast olive grove, in addition to some centuries-old trees. Unfortunately, the Gardens are open only occasionally.

The Scala (staircase) di Giocca indicates the stretch of the old access to Sassari from the route SS131 " Carlo Felice ". Scala in Sardinian language also assumes the meaning of a steep and difficult access road, while Giocca means snail, probably referring to the slow and tortuous turns imposed by the climb). The 3 km long road climbs from 132 to 312 m above sea level on six narrow hairpin bends obtained along a large edge dominated by sheer limestone walls, so that it was called "the little Moncenisio". The climb was even more demanding in the past, when it was the only access route to Sassari and the road was stony: arriving from the Logudoro subregion with their loaded wagons, the peasants had to unload half of it at the beginning; then, after having deposited the other half on top, they had to go down again and repeat the operation. Today its winding curves are the fun of motorcyclists and (downhill) cyclists; moreover, in June there is the "Scala di Giocca - Osilo", the oldest car race in Sardinia: vintage cars and motorbikes start from Sassari and the Scala di Giocca, touch various villages in the surrounding area, including Osilo, before returning to Sassari for the award ceremony.

7월 17, 2020, Necropoli di Mesu ‘e Montes
In the territory south of Ossi there is an imposing necropolis on a limestone ridge of the southern slopes of Mount Mamas. Left Ossi in the direction of Florinas, after 10 km on the SP 3, on the left you see a dirt road that leads quickly to a large open space, where you can leave your bike under a big oak tree. Here a path, well delimited by low dry stone walls, climbs (for 400 m.) to the funeral complex. The necropolis consists of 18 domus de janas, all multicellular (in two of them there are up to 12 rooms), richly adorned with pilasters, panels, false doors, taurine protomes, spiral or wolf teeth motifs. Some tombs reproduce the structure of the pre-nuragic houses with great realism: horizontal, or single or double sloping roofs, central beams and lateral joists, support pillars, zigzag and sawtooth motifs, fireplaces… everything carved in the rock. Remember to bring a torch. The place is free to access and is clearly indicated by a sign at the beginning of the dirt road.

Osilo is located about a dozen kilometers from Sassari, on a hill (one of the three peaks of Mount Tuffudesu) at over 600 m. of altitude; from here you can enjoy a magnificent view of the surrounding hills and valleys to the sea. Inhabited since the Nuragic period, Osilo grew in importance in the Middle Ages when a castle was built on the top. The population, in continuous decline since the last post-war period, today has about 3000 inhabitants and is based on an economy centered mainly on agriculture and breeding (which allows the production and marketing of lambs and quality cheeses, including the famous "pecorino" of Osilo). The local craftsmanship is based on wood carvings and embroidery and lace.Very popular in Sardinia are the oven baked products, both sweet and savory, from Osilo The castle which overlooks the village, was built at the turn of the 12th-13th century by the Marquis Malaspina, former owners of the Bosa castle. Almost two centuries earlier, in fact, this noble family, originally from Lunigiana, had received large estates in Sardinia from the Pope as a reward for helping to free the island from Arab rule. Today only the remains of the walls and two towers, one square and one round, are left.
