Beautiful

The East Beacon, a pole with a ball-topping mark, stands on the east side of Spiekeroog. There is no direct path to this small beacon. Since the south side of the island is crisscrossed by numerous ditches, the best way is to walk from the main beach on the north side of Spiekeroog along the water for about eight kilometers to the southeastern tip of the island. Until 1983, the island also had a West Beacon on the former "Caffee Dune." This dune no longer exists.

Here you can see a fairly old island protection structure. The fact that it's apparently still needed is evident from the many no-entry signs posted there. Anyone who wants to walk along the base of the wall should check the tides beforehand. If the water level is too high, it's impossible to walk at least along the bottom of the wall, and you'd have to see if you could get to the top without passing the prohibition signs.

Sea rescue in the North Sea can be clearly seen here from the past to the present.

From 11 a.m., there will also be refreshments with coffee, cold drinks, and pastries. A drinking water dispenser is located in front of the building.

When the location of the old lifeboat shed from 1862 proved unfavorable, a new one was built on the Lütjeoog dunes in 1909. Since 2024, a very informative and well-designed exhibition on the German Sea Rescue Service has been located here. A must-see!

There are several old gravestones in the churchyard, including a child's grave and a captain's grave. Remmers Oltmanns Janssen, the lifeboat foreman (1862-1883), is also buried here.
