11월 24, 2025, Castello di Ama Vigneto Bellavista
Very high-end winery but well worth a visit. Stunning architecture at their modern tasting room, beautiful old buildings comprising the restaurant and cafe, also an 'art trail' tour you can book, worth it for the Anish Kapoor alone...

Nestled among vineyards and hills, the fortified village of Ama dates back to the Middle Ages and was an important outpost defending the Republic of Florence during the wars with Siena. Traces of the original castle remain in the ancient stone houses and structures incorporated into the current village, which retains the authentic charm of the small medieval settlements of Chianti. Today, Ama is famous for its wines and for the "Castello di Ama per l'Arte Contemporanea" project, launched in the 1990s: an itinerary that integrates site-specific installations by major international artists (including Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, Hiroshi Sugimoto, and Michelangelo Pistoletto) in the historic buildings, cellars, and open spaces of the village. A stop that combines history, landscape, contemporary art, and winemaking tradition, making Ama a unique place in the heart of Chianti.

In Setteponti, shortly after Poggio Bagnoli coming from Arezzo, there is a fork on the left and immediately a dirt road, but in excellent condition. Climb of just under 3 km, gentle with only a few steeper points. At the top, views of both sides, Valdambra and Valdarno.

7월 10, 2023, Poggio di Loro Medieval Village
The origins of Poggio di Loro are medieval: the boundary walls, the gateway to the town, the architecture of its houses and the clearly Romanesque-style church are unequivocal proof of this. Poggio di Loro had an important history in the Middle Ages, also because a road passed through here which, crossing the Pratomagno, connected the Arno and Casentino valleys. This helped Poggio di Loro to "market" its products: coal and chestnuts in the first place. The town is tidy, villages and paved streets intertwine among the well-renovated buildings. 7월 10, 2023, Poggio di Loro Medieval Village
It has been there since the Middle Ages and, despite its simplicity, it suggests that it was an important and popular village. Gently perched under the slopes of Pratomagno (626m above sea level) it was in ancient times an important reference for the connection between Casentino and Valdarno. The remains of the castle walls, its characteristic houses built in local stone, arranged according to the concentric scheme of the ancient medieval castle, contribute to living in the village a particular atmosphere that invites you to discover things of a past time in its simplicity. Inside the walls, through the narrow paved streets, you reach the small square where the church of Santa Maria Assunta is located, an extraordinary Romanesque church, built in the 11th century on the remains of the ancient parish church of Santa Maria in Advena as it appears in a ancient document of 780 AD with which Charlemagne donates it to the Nonantola Abbey. Brolio Castle, located in Gaiole in Chianti, bears the signs of the most diverse eras of which it is a witness: from the medieval bastions, to the Romanesque, neo-Gothic theme, up to the Tuscan nineteenth century. It is currently managed by the Ricasoli farm, which thanks to the surrounding land, has masterfully produced wine and oil for hundreds of years. The building can be visited and, by consulting the website, it is possible to find different types of tours and tastings.

You meet this castle at the end of the first ascent of the Eroica, coming from Gaiole in Chianti. The castle deserves a refreshment/water break after the climb, to then set off again on the white brackets towards the rest of the first heroic stage.

Brolio Castle has belonged to the Ricasoli family since 1141. Over the centuries, it has suffered destruction in numerous battles of which it still bears the marks. The castle that we can admire today is the result of the reconstruction commissioned by Bettino Ricasoli in the nineteenth century, according to the medieval taste of the time. I'm talking about splendid Italian gardens with characteristic geometric shapes and a large romantic park that surrounds the castle. From there it is also possible to enjoy a breathtaking view of the lands of the Ricasoli family, famous wine producers.

Great old facility, surrounded by olive trees. If you like, you can get wine and olive oil directly from the producers. Oh, and there are also holiday apartments.

The castle of Montozzi stands at about 450 m above sea level, on a hill overlooking the upper Valdarno and Valdambra. Located in the municipality of Laterina Pergine Valdarno, in the province of Arezzo, it has been traced back to the 13th century. The castle fell into ruin at the end of the 14th century, but the village that was born around it was maintained. In the seventeenth century the remains of the castle were incorporated into the palace of the Bartolini Baldelli family. for those who want to learn more: https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castello_di_Montozzi
