A summit cross - almost gigantic - crowns the PRATOMAGNO. Despite its enormous mass, the cross does not appear overwhelming at all; rather, it appears almost delicate due to the steel framework construction (the most famous example of which is the Eiffel Tower in Paris). The inauguration took place in 1928, and the idea of building it had come up two years earlier during the celebrations for the 700th anniversary of the death of Saint Francis of Assisi. In the almost 100 years of its existence, the cross has required several repairs/maintenance measures, and so it is to be hoped that it will continue to crown the summit and serve as a widely visible sign of blessing for the country and its people.

The Cross of Pratomagno is the most characteristic place of the mountain of the same name that divides Valdarno from Casentino. ...
