11월 6, 2025, Monte Falterona
A peak a few meters lower than nearby Monte Falco, which is the highest point in the entire Casentino area. It's best known for its southern slope, where the Arno River rises, about 300 square meters lower. It offers a beautiful view of the surrounding valleys and mountains.

10월 15, 2025, Monte Penna Summit (1,331 m)
The hike was done in October, a quiet, sunny day. It's best to dress in layers because you'll sweat a bit at the start of the climb, so short sleeves are fine. I later used a Patagonia sweatshirt because it was chilly up there, and a shell jacket if you go in colder weather! I highly recommend it, the view is worth it.

A beautiful hiking trail from the source of the Arno to the summit: not too steep and through a beautiful, shady beech forest. From the summit, there are great views to the west.

Monte Falco at 1658 m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines. Alongside its second (Monte Falterona for only 4 meters less) it marks the border between Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna. Near the Capo d'Arno source and various refuges and restaurants, it offers an excellent view of the valleys, lush forests and numerous routes suitable for everyone. Non-exposed paths. Be careful on the steepest and most rugged sections. Definitely recommended.

The refuge, not managed, is located at an altitude of 1234 m. above sea level inside the Casentinesi Forest National Park, along the road that from the Camaldoli Hermitage, passing through Prato alla Penna, leads to Badia a Prataglia.

Mount Falco stands on the border between Arezzo and Florence and is also known as the "Roof of the Casentinesi Forests". With its 1,658 meters of altitude, it is the highest peak in the Tuscan-Romagnolo Apennines, exceeding the adjacent Mount Falterona by just four metres. To protect the alpine and subalpine vegetation present here, which is rare for these areas, an integral nature reserve has been established in this area.

Spectacular panoramic point over Romagna and Toacana. From the Fangacci refuge you leave the car and it's an easy 20 minute climb on foot. Highly recommended!

Highest peak of the Foreste Casentinesi Park; excellent not too demanding ride that touches several spots and shelters; possibility to have lunch in nearby structures

Beautiful but demanding, at least for me, the winter ascent to Falterona. With snow and snowshoes it is not easy. The satisfaction of the panorama and silence always pays off.

Surely the most panoramic peak of the entire Casentino. It overlooks Romagna and shows visitors the Ridracoli Dam with the mountains around it. On clear days it is possible to see S. Marino and the Adriatic Sea. If you really are very lucky on haze-free winter days you can even see the Alps.

12월 5, 2022, Colle del Barbotto Summit
Existing since the 1950s, the bar on the top of Colle del Barbotto has seen many editions of the Giro d'Italia pass through here, among other races. Here the piadina is excellent, the tagliatelle are exquisite and cycling memorabilia abounds. The current owner, Francesco, is a great bike enthusiast and will welcome those who ride with open arms.

11월 20, 2022, Colle del Barbotto Summit
One of the most famous climbs in all of Romagna, the Barbotto was decisive in the Giro Donne 2022: with over 50 kilometers to go, Annemiek Van Vleuten managed to make the difference here, winning the stage and mortgaging her third Giro. The Barbotto is also one of the hardest climbs of the Nove Colli gran Fondo. The noble side is the one that rises from Mercato Saraceno and on the top there is a plaque commemorating one who often trained here: Marco Pantani.
