From Neufra to the confluence with the Lauchert (or vice versa), you can enjoy a wonderful walk along the small Fehla river through its gentle valley, even occasionally crossing to the other side. Very relaxing and far from the major tourist hotspots of the Swabian Alb.

Roßberg Tower near Reutlingen-Gönningen, Reutlingen District Facts and Figures Elevation: 869 m (3,000 ft) Tower Height: 28 m (60 ft) Webcams: North-facing Southwest-facing Northwest-facing Coordinates: UTM 32 N 510286 5362744 GPS Coordinates: N 48.41776° E 009.13902° Tower Opening Hours: Wednesday to Saturday from 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM Groups by appointment Walking time from the parking lot to the hiking lodge: approx. 20 minutes General Information The tower and hikers' hostel were built in 1913 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Swabian Alb Association on the then largely treeless summit of the Roßberg. The tower is integrated into the hikers' hostel. The first rooms were all located in the tower – one on each floor. As an example of the Swabian Alb Association's efficiency and progressiveness, the tower and hikers' hostel were constructed using the novel and, at the time, state-of-the-art cast concrete technique. Gravel, sand, and cement were still mixed and compacted by hand. The shortcomings of this pioneering work continue to occupy the association's building experts today. The extensions from the 1930s and 1960s blend well into the overall appearance. As an example of the Swabian Alb Association's efficiency and progressiveness, the tower and hikers' hostel were built using the novel and, at the time, most modern cast concrete technique. View The Roßberg, together with the Roßfeld, forms the furthest promontory of the Swabian Alb. Accordingly, the view of the Alb escarpment extends in two directions: To the northeast, first to the Pfullinger Berg with the Gielsberg, then to Wanne and Schönberg, onward to the Urselberg, and finally to the Achalm, Teck, and, in the far distance, to the Hohenstaufen. To the southwest lies the Filsenberg with the Meisenbühl on top, in close proximity, above it the Farrenberg, to the left of which is the Hirschkopf with its massive landslide, then the Dreifürstenstein – followed by Hohenzollern with the Raichberg – and finally, as the last mountain range, the Lochenhörnle and Lochenstein, as well as the Schafberg and Plettenberg. The expansive views into the Alb foothills are impressive. At the foot of the mountain, to the northeast, lie Reutlingen and Pfullingen, to the north Tübingen with its satellite settlements on the Waldhäuser Höhe, and to the west Mössingen. In the south, Steinhilben rises seemingly to the clouds on a wave of the undulating highlands. On a clear day, a large section of the Alps is visible in the distance. Fantastic sunsets and sunrises are frequent. Even at night, the view of the sea of lights is a breathtaking experience. Several enclosures house numerous alpacas. They are very curious when you stand at the fence. Feeding them is forbidden.

The last people to live at the Albmühle were sisters Klara and Marie Walz, who lived self-sufficiently in the sawmill until their old age, under conditions from a bygone era: without running water, electricity, television, washing machine, and the like. https://youtu.be/CK_pU4Ipf2s
