The Basilica of the Santissima Annunziata, or Basilica of Santa Maria a Piè di Chienti, is a parish church located in the municipality of Montecosaro, in the hamlet of Montecosaro Scalo, in the province of Macerata. It represents one of the masterpieces of Romanesque architecture in the Marche region, and owes its name to the Chienti River that flows nearby.

Civitanova Alta preserves an almost intact circle of walls, built in part by Comacine masters in the 15th century together with the two towers of Porta S. Paolo (or Zoppa) and Porta Marina, today characterised by a cypress tree that grew spontaneously on its top, and which has become the symbol of the town.

A truly wonderful discovery, the bike path is slightly uphill, very pleasant. To reach Civitanova Alta, however, you have to tackle a stretch that isn't excessively long, but is quite steep and has a lot of traffic.

The Civitanova Fontespina stretch is also very popular with pedestrians, especially in the summer. In some stretches you need to proceed at a walking pace, pay close attention.

Updated May 3, 2025: the bridge has not been built, it seems that work has resumed in recent days. Construction site open and therefore cycle traffic prohibited, today I passed with difficulty anyway because it was a holiday and they were not working.

A modern style church, whose work began in 1933 based on a design by engineer Gustavo Stainer and was completed only at the end of the 1980s, thanks to financial donations from Civitanova fishermen and shipowners. The church has a single nave inside and interesting stained glass windows. However, what most strikes the visitor is certainly the imposing bell tower designed by Roman architect Dante Tassotti, conceived as a circular-based tower 33 meters high and ending with a cone-shaped spire. It can be visited thanks to a convenient elevator, as an alternative to a flight of 285 steps.

It is a stretch of dirt road which, coming from the north, allows you to pass under the Adriatica state road to continue south. In both directions, going from the Porto San Elpidio cycle path to Civitanova Marche still involves entering the state road on a very busy stretch. Work is about to begin on the bridge over the Chienti river which will finally eliminate the problem
